Member Spotlight: Milton CAT
NYSNLA and Milton CAT Begin the Second Year of a Powerful Partnership

2009 brought to fruition the strategic partnership between The New York State Nursery and Landscape Association and Milton CAT. A few of the major milestones from 2009 included:

  • Milton CAT’s Compact Equipment Field Day at their Batavia location. NYSNLA worked side by side with Milton CAT’s employees to make this a successful event.
  • Milton CAT held two safety and equipment operation training sessions at both their Batavia and Clifton Park locations.
  • Milton CAT was featured in the Nursery Lines publication and the annual Membership Directory.

2010 Beautification Award Winners

This year many NYSNLA members from around the state submitted entries for the 2010 Beautification Awards Program. It was another record year for entries with a total of 27 submissions. Our judges demonstrated careful consideration in evaluating each entry and found all projects remarkable. Of course, several of the entries stood out and deserve recognition as the 2010 Award Winners!

Award winners will be honored and their awards presented at the annual State Arbor Day ceremony on April 30, 2010. Winners will also be recognized during the state awards ceremonies at the State Fair. In addition, winners will be featured on the NYSNLA website, www.nysnla.com, and in NYSNLA's quarterly publication, Nursery Lines.

What is Social Media, Anyway?

Ok, so we have heard about social media, but do we really know what it is? Once we understand what social media is and how it works, the next logical question is should I be using it for my business. 

According to an article on ANLA Today, social media is like attending a huge cocktail party. The attendees make up some people that you know but would like to make a professional connection. There are a few people that are acquaintances that you share brief hellos and small conversations, then there are your good friends which you settle down with to catch up on the events in the past week. Other attendees might be customers that you want to speak to them about their business. Now if we were to bring this conglomerate of interactions to the internet: Now we have "Social Media."

Call for Nominations
George L. Good Gold Medal of Horticulture and NYSNLA Hall of Fame

The George L. Good Gold Medal of Horticulture Committee of the NYSNLA is now seeking nominations for the 2010 Gold Medal of Horticulture Award.

If you know someone that meets the criteria of this prestigious honor, please forward your nomination to Association headquarters at info@nysnla.com.

In addition, the Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations for the 2010 Hall of Fame Award. The Committee, made up of NYSNLA Past Presidents, selects a nominated member in good standing who has been active in some phase of the horticultural industry for at least 10 years and has made an outstanding and unselfish contribution to New York State’s green industry.

If you would like to nominate a member, please review the criteria and contact one of our committee members. This year selection committee consists of Jackie Crane, CNLP, Michael Pollack, and Donna Moramarco, CNLP.

Both award selections will be decided in the spring, and awards will be presented in the Court of Honor Garden on opening day of the New York State Fair.
