Scholarships and Grants by RegionWithin a number of NYSNLA regions, programs are offered for financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants. These programs are administered and awarded by each region. Below are the criteria, deadlines and application forms for each program. For more information, contact the designated region for that program. Region 1Innovation Grants (maximum of $2500) Who can apply: Nursery and landscape professionals, students, clubs or organizations, colleges, universities and schools, research facilities, botanical gardens or arboreta. Criteria: Awards may be presented for activities, projects, studies, programs, equipment development, courses, tours, trips or other endeavors that may qualify. Proposals must have some impact on the local nursery, landscape or retail horticulture industry. In reviewing applications from qualifying institutions, the innovative nature of the request as well as the effectiveness of the proposal in enhancing learning in the field of horticulture will be considered. LINLA Scholarships Criteria: Applicant must be continuing studies in horticulture or landscape design, must have intent on pursuing a career in horticulture or landscape design (preferably on Long Island), must have a 2.5 GPA or higher, must be sponsored or recommended by a horticultural or landscape design instructor or employer, and should demonstrate leadership potential and activity in the green industry through work experience or extracurricular activities. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate outstanding accomplishment in the field of horticulture or landscape design. Region 6Horticultural Scholarships (Awards Vary) Who can apply: Residents of Region 6 planning to pursue a career in the nursery/landscape industry. Criteria: While not requirements, the following guidelines will be considered for students seeking scholarship eligibility: enrollment in a horticulture-related program at an accredited college, academic excellence, recommendation from a member company, work experience within the nursery/landscape industry, financial need, academic recommendation, extracurricular activities in school/community, quality of application essay, desire to work within Region 6.
