Why Long Island?

Eastern Long Island has a wealth of active agricultural industries that are still thriving and growing. In fact, Suffolk County is the highest producing county in New York state in agricultural products in dollar volume. That industry includes a diverse array of specialties including: horse farms, wineries, breweries, farmstands, pumpkin picking, berry picking, apple orchards, container nurseries, in-ground field nurseries, greenhouse growers (two of the three largest operations in the United States are on the east end of Long Island), organic and conventional vegetable growers, fruit growers/homemade pies, cattle and dairy, cannabis and hemp. Long Island was also once the duck capital of the United States. Millions of tourists pass through the North Fork Wine Trail on Long Island each season.

The reason for this has to do with the geography and climate of eastern Long Island. With rich sandy-loam soils and a temperate climate, the area is conducive to growing many difficult farm and nursery crops. The proximity of vast markets for products including New York City and the entire Tri-State area also make it a successful area to grow and sell plant crops.

The median income on Long Island is higher than average which gives homeowners enough expendable income to afford more elevated landscaping and maintenance which bolsters the landscape industry on Long Island.
